About Domaine de la Roche 1859
It was in 1859 that our farming family, originally from Choully, settled in Dardagny to cultivate their land and press the fruit of their labor using the 1856 ashlar press that to this day adorns the magnificent farmhouse. Today, 160 years later, we are the fifth and sixth generations to run the estate with the same respect and passion for our terroir. For us, 2018 rhymes with renewal : giving the estate a name and creating our own range of wines, it's an approach that makes perfect sense by enhancing the richness of our magnificent vineyard, and it's our hope that Domaine de la Roche 1859 will live on for many more generations to come.
The Vineyard
Our 13 hectares of vines are worked according to the standards of Swiss agriculture PI, Integrated Production, with a concern for respecting the environment by promoting sustainable development. The rows are grassed and the phytosanitary treatment plan is based on Bio Suisse specifications. We grow grape varieties that have diversified over the years. To date, the estate has 10 different AOC grape varieties. For the whites : Chasselas, Chardonnay, Pinot blanc, Riesling x sylvaner, Sauvignon blanc, Sauvignon gris and for the reds : Gamay, Pinot noir, Gamaret and Merlot.
The Cellar
The first 4 wines were made by Sandrine Bersier on the premises of Clos du Château in Choully. The magnificent original cellar dating from 1800 was completely renovated in 2010 and is equipped with state-of-the-art cellar equipment. The experience of Lionel Dugerdil and his team, coupled with quality work in the vineyard, has enabled us to produce some real marvels. Being based in Geneva, it was obvious that we wanted to vinify Chasselas and Gamay, and the results are outstanding. For the other two grape varieties, the choice was made according to our tastes: we love Chardonnay, and the "Les Communailles" parcel is a jewel! For Gamaret, it's a bit the same, a beautiful parcel and magnificent fruit.
