What is a cow share?

Chästeilet is not basically our invention. For hundreds of years, mountain and alpine cheeses have been divided proportionally between cow owners at the end of the Alpine summer. This tradition is present throughout Switzerland. The most famous is certainly the Chästeilet in the Justistal valley.

Inspired by this, in 1999 the usual chef's table had the idea that a similar Chästeilet would have gone well to Wengen. Unfortunately, or rather, fortunately, the sharing of cheese is not celebrated in such a stunning way in Wengen as in the Justistal Valley.

The peculiarity of the Chästeilet of Wengen is that anyone can become part of this ancient tradition. With the purchase of a cow's share, the shareholder becomes the proud owner of a mountain cheese. Each of these cheeses, made specifically for shareholders, weighs 6-7 kg and comes from Wengernalp, Allmend or Spätenalp and can be chosen at Chästeilet. There are also other delicacies. Whether it's liquor, beer, sausage, honey or something boiled, it's always delicious.
