Here, in the Speck (ex Speck), the peat was cut in the first half of the last century. To get here, the swampy paths were lined with tree trunks. From here the name Speck (pancetta). It is assumed and it is also said that a theatre of the Roman past is located in the hill behind the hangar, from which the term spectaculum. Although the first version seems more likely.
In 1948, Zürcher Oberland was founded, which moved his activities from Hittnau to Speck in 1953. The club's headquarters became a restaurant, where my father Chrigi Kessler opened the Restaurant im Speck on April 1, 2000.
The restaurant has been expanded with a display of quality wines and products.
The restaurant was expanded in 2003 with a garden restaurant, a self-service kiosk (Windy Corner) and a playground. In 2015/16, the whole plant was renovated and expanded with a dining room (Tynwald Tavern) that can accommodate up to 60 people. Meanwhile, 13 people work in the summer season and 1-2 apprentices are trained at any time.
Since his death in January 2020, the work of a life has been carried out by the entire Speck team in his spirit.
