The Municipality of Blenio was born on 22 October 2006 with the elections of the City Hall and the City Council after the aggregation of the 5 Municipalities of Aquila, Campo Blenio, Ghirone, Olivone and Torre was decreed by the Grand Council on 25 January 2005.

The coat of arms of the municipality is of red background, it represents in the center the blue river, element present in all five former municipalities, and on the sides five circles of yellow color that act as a symbol of the aggregated municipalities in 2006.
